Natalie "Dolly" Breese

July 5, 2018

Breese, Natalie “Dolly” Dietzel

Age 95 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018.  . Dolly was born in Elmira, NY on February 5, 1923 to the late Ben and Natalie (Wheeler) Dietzel.  In addition to her parents, Dolly was predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 68 years, John L. Breese along with her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Marion Swackhamer.  Dolly is survived by her three children:  Scott (Maureen Ferrell) Breese of Elmira, NY; Bart and Patty (Fitzgerald) Breese of Lockport, NY and Lori and Raymond Cady of Horseheads, NY.  Along with her children, Dolly is survived by six granddaughters and a great-grandson.  They are Lisa Breese of Lockport, NY;  Sarah and David Aquino of Tonawanda, NY along with their son and Dolly’s first great-grandchild, Dominic Aquino; Amy Breese of Lockport, NY; Stephanie Cady of Horseheads, NY; Valerie Cady and fiancé Travis Patocka of Horseheads, NY and Melanie Cady of Binghamton, NY.   Additionally, Dolly is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends from her years as a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Horseheads and the Horseheads Woman’s Club.  Dolly was a quiet and unassuming woman who delighted in her family and tending to their needs.  She was fond of camping and spent many years traveling with John across most of New York State and other areas of the United States.  Dolly’s gentle personality and endearing smile are the most treasured memories for the family along with her world-class potato salad and an annual Easter ham that she tended as if it was her first born.  After graduating from Southside High School in 1941 and marrying John, they settled briefly in Alfred, NY while he went to college and then they returned home to Horseheads to raise their family.  On Dolly’s behalf, the entire Breese family wishes to express their appreciation to the individual caregivers who tended Dolly while she was still residing at home and the aides, nurses, social workers and administrators at Bethany Skilled Nursing Facility who made her final days so much richer and gentler by their nurturing attention. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 S. Main St., Horseheads on Monday, July 9, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Her life will be celebrated in a service at Barber’s at the end of calling hours with a private burial taking place at a later date.  Flowers will be provided by the family and it was Dolly’s request that any donations in her memory be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 2943 Westinghouse Road, Horseheads, NY 14845. www.barberfuneralhome.com
