LOCKE, Charley F.
age 87 of Horseheads, NY, and formerly of Odessa, NY. The Lord called Charley home on Mar. 1, 2010. He was born in Millport, to the late Charles and Nora Locke on July 30, 1922. Charley is survived by his wife, Jennie of 63 years; Daughters, Carol (Lee) O’Brien and Linda (Mark) Churchman; Grandson, Jonathan (Bridgette) Gibbs with great-granddaughter, Peyton; Sister-in-law, Irma Sampson as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Archie, Grant, George, Raymond and sisters, Clara, Lela, Pearl and Lena. Charley served at the CCC camp in Burdett, NY in 1939 and he was a veteran of WWII. He was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1945. He owned a disposal service from 1951-1983. He drove school bus, Sunday School bus, and retired from the Chemung County Transit system in 1993. Charley enjoyed time with family and friends. He was a compassionate husband and father. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 S. Main St. Horseheads on Thursday Mar. 4, 2010 from 6-8:00 pm. Family and friends are also invited to call at the Funeral Home on Friday from 11:00-12:00 noon where his service will follow there at the funeral home at the conclusion of calling hours at 12:00 noon. His son-in-law, the Rev. Lee O’Brien and the Rev. William Wells will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira. The family would also like to thank the staff at Arnot Ogden medical Center as well as the staff of Elcor for their care and compassion.
